TV Young Apprentice winner Ashleigh Porter-Exley showed just what an ambitious Yorkshire lass can do when she puts her mind to it.

Ashleigh, 18 came to talk to pupils at Dearne Advanced Learning Centre, Goldthorpe, and made it a day they would never forget.

As a role model for young people, Ashleigh visits schools around the country, and she was only to happy to demonstrate the get up and go attitude which gave her the title bestowed on her by business mogul Sir Alan Sugar after she took on talented teens from around the UK.

The former Wath Comprehensive pupil grew up in Bolton on Dearne and attended Lacewood Primary School, so shared a common bond with the year nine, 10 and 11 year pupils, who quizzed her about her rise to fame on the TV series.

Head of careers at Dearne ALC, Jess Leech, said: “We were really impressed, not just the pupils but the staff too. We were all talking about it the day after.

“She’s just 18 and it was amazing how she came across with public speaking. She’s very confident and down to earth at the same time.

“It was fabulous she was really impressive it was so refreshing to see a young person with so much to give. She was not remotely pretentious or aloof.”

Ashleigh stayed behind to meet pupils and chatted about her experiences.

Pupils asked questions about how the show worked and whether she had enjoyed it and what it was like being in the final.

She told them being in business was something she had always wanted to do.

The budding tycoon is studying for her NVQ in business and administration and taking an evening course in accountancy.

She talked to pupils about using her £25,000 prize to set up in business and property management.

Jess Leech added: “She was quite keen to express that the kids should use their own characteristics from this area to their own advantage.

“It was really nice to hear a Yorkshire accent helps in business and Ashleigh certainly hasn’t lost hers.

“She commented on how friendly people from Bolton on Dearne are.

“It would be great to have her visit again and I know the students would love it.”
