Students flying the flag for footie
A TEAM of Doncaster football fans are following in David Beckham's famous footsteps by jetting off to America.
Doncaster College HND Sport and Exercise Science students Tom Shenton, Natalie Dobie and Shireen Fullerton and BTEC National Diploma Sport and Exercise Science students Adam Garner and Dave Walton will be travelling across the Atlantic in the summer to coach children in football.
Their trip is part of the Challenger Sports coaching programme which has set up links with the Waterfront based college.
The profile of football in America received a boost when former Manchester United and Real Madrid star Beckham signed for Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy.
However, by the time the quintet arrives Beckham could have left the US to sign for Italian giants AC Milan where he is on loan.
The students will spend at least five weeks teaching football - or soccer - to youngsters aged between five and 18.
Many students from the college have made the trip in recent years after the link-up with Challenger Sports but this is the largest group yet.
