School library collects top prize of £500

DON Valley School has won an award for its innovative ways to encourage children to enjoy reading.

Everything from games and activities and everyone from Dr Who to James Bond featured in the library of the Scawthorpe school, impressing judges from the National Year of Reading's 2008 panel during its Autumn challenge.

The Jossey Lane school beat a host of entries from across the country to collect top prize of 500 worth of vouchers to use on reading materials.

Don Valley librarian Lyn Hopson said: "We're so pleased to have won this award. The National Year of Reading really helped to inspire us and the students with the wide selection of themes they suggested.

"By taking reading outside of the classroom and focusing on film, we've helped to inspire some more reluctant readers to get into reading."
