Scam warning ahead of Games

DONCASTER Council is warning residents of scams in the run up to the London Olympics.
Across the country fraudsters are looking to cash in on the 2012 games with fake merchandise and scams including counterfeit goods, fake tickets and websites, lottery scams and dodgy travel deals.
Trading Standards will be carrying out checks throughout Doncaster and on internet sites in the run up to the games.
Coun Cynthia Ransome, cabinet member for communities, said: “Fakes not only harm legitimate traders but, depending on the type of goods being counterfeited, may pose a safety risk to consumers.
“Profits from illegal sales sometimes help to fund other organised crime.”
To report a scam contact the Citizens’ Advice Consumer Service on 08454 04 05 06.
