Floral tributes on Cooperative Street in Goldthorpe outside the property of Peter Topping who was fatally injured following a hit and run outside his house
POLICE are once again appealing for information about the death of a man who was mown down on a Goldthorpe street. And there could be a cash reward for any valuable information received. It was one year on December 29 since Peter Topping, 56, was found run over on the road outside his home on Co-operative Street, Detectives investigating the death have never traced the driver of the vehicle involved, that failed to stop at the scene of the collision.
The driver is thought to have continued along Co-operative Street, turning left on to Doncaster Road.
Police are keen to trace the occupants of three vehicles believed to have been in the area at the time, who may have witnessed the incident – a dark Mercedes ‘C’ class, a dark Land Rover Freelander, and a silver Audi A3.
Inspector Geoff Young, of South Yorkshire Police, said: “Although this incident is 12 months old, we are still actively trying to trace the vehicle and the driver.
“The investigation is continuing, but the police need the public’s help.
“The makes and models of three vehicles that left Co-operative Street near the time of the incident may contain witnesses.
“The drivers of the vehicles may live in the immediate area or may have been visiting someone, but if anyone has any information about them, please let us know.”
Mr Topping had been out for the evening and is thought to have been lying in the road when he was struck.
Neighbours gave emergency first aid until paramedics took over, but his injuries were too severe.
Anyone who saw what happened, or who has information that could help identify the drivers of the vehicles, should contact South Yorkshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111, quoting incident 779 of December 29, 2011
