Rectory calls for more volunteers

EPWORTH’S Old Rectory has launched an appeal for people to make a special New Year Resolution – to lend the popular tourist attraction a helping hand.

The Grade I listed building was once the childhood home of John and Charles Wesley - who founded a movement that went on to become the Methodist Church – and is now a museum.

Curator, Rev Claire Potter said: “We have a healthy number of volunteers but always need more, especially as we have plans to expand our range of events.”

The museum is currently working on plans to return the Old Rectory to its appearance in 1716, when the Wesley family was in residence. Proposals include a new, external visitors’ centre and improved and extended car parking facilities.

The range of additional helpers needed includes people who could help in the museum’s shop, helping to serve refreshments and assist with office administration.

After training, some people could advance to become guides for either the Wesley Tours of the town or in the Old Rectory itself – providing they so desire.

Anyone interested should phone 01427 872268 or email curator@epwortholdrectory.org.uk
