THERE was no drinking from skulls at Rawmarsh Monkwood Primary School last week, but there were a few helmets and horns about!
Not that the Vikings always wore horns - that was one of the facts pupils discovered when special Viking workshops took place on Thursday.
Viking visitors in authentic costume introduced themselves in the morning, then hosted war workshops, cookery and craft work in the afternoon.
Pupils donned costumes too, and were thrilled to learn that women ruled and had their pick of husbands, that Vikings worshipped several gods and that they came from Sweden, Norway and Denmark.
Staff member Jackie Webb said: “We had a wonderful day. The children really enjoyed learning about the Vikings in this interesting way.”
Meanwhile, pupils from another school spent their day out and about...
A first visit to the new Rawmarsh Library and Customer Service Centre was a hit with St Joseph’s RC Primary pupils, who all have brand new member cards.
The topic of autumn will be researched by different classes on visits each week, said teacher Christine Clarke.
She added: “We were given a very warm welcome.”
