PRIDE week made an impact on youngsters
PRIDE week, a Doncaster Council initiative to encourage local primary school children to take an active role in improving their environment, has seen several lasting changes implemented by enthusiastic pupils.
During PRIDE week pupils laid around 10 tonnes of wood chip, totalling 400 metres of new and improved pathways in and around local woodlands.
Bentley New Village, Bentley High Street, Scawthorpe Castle Hills, Toll Bar, Kirkby Avenue and Scawthorpe Sunnyfields primary schools each planted an apple tree on school grounds to mark the start of an ongoing community and school effort to the local environment.
Participating schools also carried out litter pickings at school and around their community before planting thousands of bulbs to further transform the areas.
Councillor Patrick Wilson, Cabinet member for Children and Young People said, "PRIDE week saw the start of some very exciting ongoing projects.
I'm delighted thatlocal children have really embraced the lesson that everyone is able to make a difference to our environment."
