POLICE seized an estimated £500, 000 worth of drugs from a Dearne industrial site.

Officers from the Rawmarsh Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) swooped on Friday and found more than 1800 cannabis plants at an industrial unit in Kilnhurst.

Police said on Twitter the haul had an estimated street value of £500, 000.

Two men were quizzed by police on suspicion of cannabis production.

They were later charged with the offence and appeared before Rotherham Magistrates Court on Saturday.

Acting Police Sergeant Brett Thompson said: “This was a significant discovery and will no doubt have an effect on disrupting the supply of cannabis in the area.

“Officers from Rotherham’s priority crime team are still making enquiries in an attempt to establish any outstanding offenders who were concerned in the production of cannabis at this site.”
