STUDENTS and staff from The Axholme Academy in Crowle had the trip of a lifetime when they travelled to Stratford to watch the Paralympic Games.

A total of 49 pupils and four members of teaching staff made the journey to the capital.

The groups arrived at the Olympic Park a nd organiser Miss Downs said everyone was amazed at the facilities and venues, stopping to take photos throughout the park.

They watched the women’s singles gold medal match in wheelchair tennis.

“We were lucky enough to watch the Dutch player Esther Vergeer win her match to take gold, she’s won over 400 games in a row and is unbeaten in almost a decade,” said Miss Downs.

The group then watched seven-a-side football for athletes with cerebral palsy before attending the basketball arena to watch wheelchair rugby or ‘murderball’.

Afterwards some of the students managed to have their photos taken with GB wheelchair rugby star Ross Morrison. The school tweeted him the picture and he tweeted back saying it was a pleasure to meet othe Crowle students in London and he’s now following the school on teh scoial media site.

“We will treasure the memories forever,” said the teacher.
