Oh baby .... there's alot of new faces at the town's wildlife park these days
A FLURRY of new arrivals have made surprise appearances at a Doncaster-based wildlife centre, to the delight of staff and visitors.
In the space of just two weeks, several animals at Branton's Yorkshire Wildlife Park have become proud new parents, adding a variety of little furry friends to the park's many attractions.
Three kids were born, young joeys arrived and an unlikely pairing of a precious baby guanaco (a wild ancestor of the llama) and a lechwe antelope calf soon followed!
Although usually found in South America, the small woolly guanaco (known as a chulengo) is already standing in its new home in Brockholes Lane.
The park's staff also welcomed the antelope calf, which has been named Blossom and is the second of its kind to be born there.
With an ever increasing array of animals, including ostrich, meerkats and hunting dogs, staff are wondering if there will be more unexpected arrivals to add to the recent baby boom.
John Minion, animal director, said: "Spring is definitely in the air around here!
"Visitors are really enjoying seeing all the baby animals.
"It is good for us too as the park only opened on April 4, so it is a good sign that the animals are happy and settled that they are successfully breeding."
Zebra and other species of antelope will also be setting up home at the centre soon.
All new arrivals and mums are doing well and can be seen everyday with the rest of the animals at the centre, open daily from 10am-5pm.
During the warm weather the park has even been giving the animals ice lollies to keep them cool.
In a special promotion, every Saturday in July is free to enter after 5pm. The animal area is open until 6.15pm and a Jungle Play Barn is also available until 7.45pm with a charge of 1 per child. For more details, visit www.yorkshirewildlifepark.com or call 01302 535057.
