New footbridge appears at Doncaster area station
The new footbridge linking the platforms at Thorne South train station.
Passengers using Thorne South station found a new footbridge linking the platforms this morning.
The bridge has been installed over the weekend by Network Rail to reduce the risk to pedestrians by fully separating them from trains.
Phil Verster, route managing director for Network Rail, said: “We became concerned about misuse of the level crossing at Thorne South station after reports that pedestrians had been involved with near misses.
“Our team was actually on site with staff from Northern Rail and South Yourkshire PTE, looking at options for a permanent bridge on January 8 when a lady was struck by a train when using the crossing. We took the decision that we needed to take swift action and this footbridge has been installed as a temporary measure.
