Naked ambition raises cash for scanner appeal

A PERFORMANCE of The Full Monty raised £400 for Scan For Life - as well as a few eyebrows - at a Doncaster pub.

Local lads Billy Smith, Richie Myers and Carl Phillips left drinkers at The Broadway Hotel, Dunscroft, stunned when they went all the way for our latest charity appeal.

And landlord John McDonnell has hinted that his regulars might not have seen the last of the cheek-y trio just yet!

He said: "The lads have done this on a number of occasions at many different venues and they asked me if they could do it at the Broadway Hotel. I thought it'd be a good idea to make it into a night for Scan For Life.

"The three lads are all from Dunscroft and they gave a rousing rendition of The Full Monty - the evening went down really well. We raised 400 which in the current climate is very good.

"We've got a few ideas for another fundraiser - with a similar theme - so we're hoping to raise even more. We all think Scan For Life is an excellent appeal and it deserves some local support."

Mr McDonnell helped raise money by organising a raffle at the event in December, while several generous donations came from the audience as the evening progressed - but only in return for The Full Monty!

Keep an eye on the Free Press for details of more Scan For Life fundraising at The Broadway Hotel.

Scan For Life, in conjunction with Doncaster Cancer Detection Trust, was launched in July last year to raise 600,000 for a new state-of-the-art scanner for Doncaster Royal Infirmary - and we're already more than a third of the way to our target.

Doctors say the new equipment will revolutionise the detection and treatment of cancer across the borough.
