Mum injured in Doncaster street row over unborn baby

A MAN who wanted nothing to do with a baby conceived during a brief relationship with a young woman attacked her when she confronted him in a Doncaster street.
When police arrested Andrew James Kime he told them he had ‘only slept with her once’.
The mother of his child wants nothing more to do with him, Doncaster Crown Court was told.
Kime, aged 28, of Ramsden Road, Hexthorpe, pleaded guilty to an offence of common assault on the 22-year-old woman.
Because he spent nearly five weeks in custody awaiting the hearing, Judge Jacqueline Davies sentenced him to a 12-month community order and 150 hours of unpaid work.
Prosecutor Carl Fitch said the woman had been in a brief relationship with Kime, which she said lasted a few months, and she had fallen pregnant to him.
At the time of the assault in June of last year she was nine weeks pregnant.
She had gone into town with friends and contacted Kime to meet up with him in Hexthorpe.
“She met the defendant, they had an argument over the fact that she was pregnant and he made it clear he didn’t want to continue the relationship even though she was having his baby,” said Mr Fitch.
Kime told her he was back with a former partner and the argument turned violent.
He pushed her and she fell to the ground where she banged her head. Mr Fitch said both had been drinking.
The woman went to hospital and was found to have a large lump on the back of her head, a bloodshot left eye and bruising to her arms, elbows and knees. She also had to have the unborn baby checked.
She told police: “All I want is for Andrew to leave me alone for good. I don’t want him near me or my baby.”
Mr Fitch added: “When the defendant was arrested he said he’d only slept with her once and had not seen her for months.”
Kime’s record of 23 previous offences included an assault on another girlfriend, a 21-year-old, when he beat her about the head and face.
Defence solicitor Cedric Hennis said Kime now had no relationship with the complainant and he had kept himself out of trouble since.
“The time he has spent in custody could be judged a punishment for this offence.”
