Motorway closed - update 5.15pm

MOTORWAY drivers have been left stuck in huge tailbacks this morning after a jackknifed lorry closed the M18 near Doncaster.

Traffic is queuing in both directions following the crash which happened close to Junction 2 at Wadworth.

Drivers heading towards Doncaster on the northbound carriageway have been told to expect delays of up to an hour.

Vehicles travelling south towards Sheffield are already queuing back to Junction 3 at White Rose Way.

Traffic officers expect to re-open both carriageways around midday.

UPDATE 12.30PM:

THE northbound carriageway of the M18 motorway is not expected to reopen until 3pm.

People travelling towards Doncaster are now facing delays of one and half hours after a lorry jackknifed between junctions one and two this morning.

However,one lane on the southbound carriageway has been re-opened to traffic.

Drivers heading towards Sheffield and the M1 are facing delays of ten minutes.

UPDATE - 2.15pm

ONE lane of each carriageway remains closed as safety experts carry out barrier repairs.

Delays for northbound drivers have been reduced to one hour, while vehicles going south are still facing ten minute waits.

Normal traffic conditions are expected around 3pm.

UPDATE: 5.15PM

Motorway fully re-opened in both directions.
