A VAN driver has been arrested following a motorway collision with a car which left a man needing hospital treatment.

The incident involved a Vauxhall Corsa and large van causing the car to overturn before coming to a rest upside down on the central reservation on the M1 northbound near junction 31.

The 29-year-old driver of the silver Corsa, who is from Nottingham, was taken to Rotherham District General Hospital and treated for minor injuries before being discharged.

The driver of the blue Volkswagen LT panel van, who is from the Rotherham area, was arrested and is on police bail.

The incident, which happened on Thursday just before 2.30pm, caused the northbound carriageway and one lane of the southbound carriageway to be closed for a short while.

Sgt Steve Askham said: “Incredibly there were no serious injuries from this collision. South Yorkshire Police are keen to speak to anybody who was on the M1 at the time, in the area approaching junction 31, who may have seen all or part of the incident.”

Anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 591 of October 25, 2012.
