SOME slinky, wriggling and crawling customers could be found in Conisbrough classrooms last week - and they were warmly welcomed!

Educational company MeetaCreature visited Pennine View School, to introduce a variety of minibeasts to pupils and staff.

Enthusiastic handlers gave instruction on living things and the different environments in which they live, and pupils were able to touch and handle a selection of friendly and unusual creatures.

All their questions about animals and insects were answered in detail they could understand, and many would have liked to keep the baby hamster as a pet at the end of the day but unfortunately were unable to.

Teacher Angela Jones said: “This was a wonderful experience. The children were completely engaged with the activity, and eagerly awaited the presentation of each new creature, while still talking about the last one they had seen.”

She added: “The whole session was relaxing yet totally stimulating too. Our pupils learned a great deal and were interested to discover how the creatures used their senses in very different ways, for example. And it was amazing to see the concentration of pupils as they held and studied creatures from baby tortoises and salamanders to a royal python.” Pupils were complimented by ranger Dean Roots on their excellent behaviour.
