FIRE services were called out last night to a Mexborough flat reported to be on fire.

The rear door of an empty ground floor flat on Oakland Road was set on fire deliberately. The blaze did not spread although some smoke entered the flat, said a fire services spokesperson.

Two engines from the Dearne station attended at 10pm and left after 40 minutes.

Police are investigating.
