RHIANNON Willson and Charlene Singh hope they have rustled up a pie fit for a princess in a Doncaster College competition.
The talented pair's garam masala pie was judged the best pastry with an unusual filling in an Enterprise Week competition at Doncaster College's hospitality and catering department.
The VIP pie will be presented to Princess Anne when she visits the Topping Pie Company on Monday, 8th December, one of three engagements she has in the town that day.
The girls came upon their inspiration while browsing the supermarket shelves.
Rhiannon explained: "We were in the supermarket looking at herbs and spices and thought about this. Within half an hour or so we had come up with the recipe."
Charlene added: "I can't believe we won the competition. There were a lot of good pie fillings and they all looked lovely."
James Lindley-Brown and Gary Maxfield's Sunday Dinner pie was runner-up.
Course director Jane Fishwick said that the department's collaboration with Toppings had encouraged enterprising and creative qualities in the students.
Linda Povey, Toppings general manager, who judged the efforts, said: "There are a lot of very talented young catering students at the college and the challenge unleashed some enterprising and innovative ideas."
As well as opening speciality pie-maker Toppings' new extension, the princess will officially open The Hub and the renal unit at Doncaster Royal Infirmary.
