Major roadworks to continue in Balby

RESURFACING works will start on a major Doncaster road this month.

Some of the work along Balby Road is part of the Doncaster Connecting Infrastructure (A630 Smart Route) project and the remainder is part of Doncaster Council’s road improvement programme which is taking place at the same time in an attempt to avoid further disruption at a later date.

To complete the resurfacing, the inbound carriageway will be closed from Warmsworth roundabout to Greenfield Lane Monday to Thursday between 7pm and 6am for up to eight weeks.

Signposted diversions will be in place for motorists.

New traffic signals are being installed at the Hall Flat Lane junction which will see Oswin Avenue closed and no right turn from Balby Road into Hall Flat Lane for one week from this Sunday.

Temporary traffic lights will be in operation during these works.

Peter Dale, the council’s director of regeneration and environment, said: “We are doing all we can to minimise disruption and that is why night time closures are being used to carry out the resurfacing works. Once again we ask motorists and road users to show patience as they will see real benefits in terms of less congestion, reduced journey times and an improved road surface once these works are complete.”

Works have also included new footpaths and central reserves, kerbing, edgings and lighting, junction improvements, a number of bus priority measures at busy junctions and real time information at bus stops.

The final phase of the A630 Smart Route project started in July and should be complete in November. The additional resurfacing works should be finished in December.

The scheme is being undertaken by Doncaster Council in partnership with the South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The project has secured £943,280 of investment from the ERDF which is managed by the Department for Communities and Local Government.

The funding is awarded as part of the Yorkshire and Humber ERDF Programme 2007-13 which is investing to improve the economic infrastructure in key urban centres in South Yorkshire and their main access routes.

The resurfacing work continues on October 29.
