M18 improvement plan gets go-ahead
Junction 3 of the M18 in Doncaster.
A £3.5 million plan to improve the M18 motorway and boost links with Robin Hood Airport has been given the green light.
Work on the upgrade between junctions 2 and 3 is expected to get under way in 2014 and ties in with the FARRRs project which will connect motorway users directly with the airport via a dual carriageway.
Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin announced the development yesterday as part of a package of road improvements across Yorkshire and the Humber region totalling £32.4 million.
The work is aimed at improving road safety and reducing bottlenecks on the motorway’s northbound carriageway between junction 2 - the A1(M) interhcange and junction 3, the White Rose Way turn off, where work is already under way to widen carriageways and create a direct link to the airport via Rossington.
