Library open after refurb

MEXBOROUGH Library - one of the borough’s remaining council-run branches - has been reopened after a major refurbishment.

The facility was re-launched after the completion of a programme of work which has included improvements to the lighting, paintwork, flooring and services offered to customers.

The authority says it aims for all council-run libraries to be bright, welcoming places where people can meet friends or learn something new relating to their interests, with staff on hand.

Mayor of Doncaster, Peter Davies, said: “In the past our libraries have been under-used but I am confident that, with the ongoing improvements we are making, this service will be brought fully into the 21st century.”

The council stopped running 14 of its 26 libraries earlier this year in a move to save it around £1.2 million a year. This included Denaby Library, which remains closed.
