Hundreds set for the big walk
HUNDREDS of volunteers are expected to take a walk on the wild side tomorrow night - and help Scan For Life on the road to fundraising glory.
Doncaster Central MP Rosie Winterton, civic mayor Paul Coddington, marathon man Tommy Joyce and Olympic tae kwon do star Sarah Stevenson are among those who have signed up to complete our Midnight Walk.
The event, at Lakeside, has been organised in conjunction with Doncaster Council and the Keepmoat Stadium - offering friends, families and work-mates the chance to play their part in the borough's battle to beat cancer.
The Free Press has teamed up with Doncaster Cancer Detection Trust to collect 600,000 for Doncaster Royal Infirmary to buy a new state-of-the-art scanner.
And those taking part tomorrow night can expect a heart-warming - if not altogether warm - experience.
Participants will light up Lakeside with a trail of lanterns - joining forces to raise money for a scanner that will revolutionise the detection and treatment of cancer across the borough.
Shane Chalmers, operations director at the Keepmoat Stadium, said: "We're anticipating a huge turnout from the people of Doncaster to show their support for the campaign. We're delighted to be working closely with the Doncaster Free Press and Doncaster Council to play our part in the Midnight Walk and to help raise money for such a worthy cause that will benefit so many people across the borough.
"Community spirit is an important value for the people of Doncaster and we want to urge everyone to come to the Keepmoat Stadium on Friday and back the appeal."
Councillor Andrea Milner, cabinet member for connected communities, will also be wrapping up warm to take part. She said: "This is a very worthy local cause and I'm delighted the council is able to support it."
n Please note that you must be registered to take part in the Midnight Walk. Volunteers from the Doncaster Cancer Detection Trust will, however, be on hand for anyone wishing to make a donation to Scan For Life on the night itself.
n Arrive at the Keepmoat Stadium for 11.30pm (Car Park 1). There will be WC facilities and somewhere to buy refreshments.
nOfficials from the Doncaster Cancer Detection Trust will be on hand to provide assistance.
* On arrival get your sponsorship form stamped by the DCDT and collect your lantern.
* Once forms are stamped you are ready to go - the walk will begin in groups on the stroke of midnight.
* The walk should take around 40 minutes to complete.
* When you complete the walk return your lantern to a DCDT official.
* All sponsorship forms and money raised should be returned to the DCDT St John's Hospice shop at 4, East Laith Gate, before Friday, November 28.
