ISLE folk have been honoured for their selfless work in helping to make their communities a better place to live.
Five people from the area have won awards in the North Lincolnshire Community Champion Awards.
Among those to receive recognition was Charlotte Geddes, 12 of Potts Lane, Crowle, who won the Young Arts Heritage Achiever of the Year and runner up, was Isabelle Nicholl-Marshall, seven, also of Crowle.
The twinkle-toed duo dancers are hoping to wow the theatre crowds after they were chosen to appear in a marathon run of panto shows. They will appear in 27 shows of Aladdin at the Plowright Theatre in Scunthorpe over the festive season.
Charlotte’s mum Sue said: “We are very proud of Charlotte and all she has achieved this year - she is going from strength to strength.”
Meanwhile Kathy and Bill Thompson, aged 69 and 75 respectively, were awarded the Outstanding Contribution to a Learning Community Award.
Mrs Thompson said: “We were shocked when we heard we had won the award. It was a very nice gesture to be nominated.”
The Althorpe couple have provided support to children for the past 30 years.
The competition saw 26 awards handed out to residents who have gone the extra mile or helped make a real difference to someone’s life in their community.
Crowle disabled athlete Alan Rayment, was runner up in the Life Achievement category.
Said Alan, 37, “It was really nice to be nominated for the award - although I would like to think I have a few more years left in me yet.”
The gongs were handed out a glitzy evening at the Baths Hall in Scunthorpe which also included a performance from 2012 X Factor contestant Jake Quickenden.
Coun John Briggs, cabinet member for culture and housing at North Lincolnshire Council, said: “The winners and runners up are to be congratulated on their achievements. They have all done outstanding work - whether it’s for their own personal goals or to make a difference to a person’s life or others in their community. It is important that we acknowledge the good work that takes place right on our doorstep.”
