Helping put new life into flood-hit school
EVERYTHING is coming up roses for a school devastated by the disastrous floods of 2007 - thanks to a massive cash injection.
Pupils at Toll Bar Primary School are blooming following the handover of funds to create a new environmental garden at the school which was left under feet of water after the disastrous floods which swept through the village.
Since then, a massive clean-up and investment project has been under way at the school to return it to its former glory and pupils are now reaping the rewards following the decision to create a new green themed outdoor project.
Following the floods, the Rotary Club of Doncaster St Leger secured an initial 7,500 to create a new play area at the devastatedToll Bar Primary and then a further 25,000 from Flood Relief funds to replace the ruined 'green greenhouse', allotment and other growing areas with an environmental garden.
The project, reflecting the wishes of the children and staff, will provide a substantial area at the school with green spaces, including plots for cultivation, a wildlife bog area, 'stone circle', a living willow arbour, a stage and seating area, a story time corner, and a bamboo walk etc.
Construction work is now almost complete and planting will start in
February.
The President of Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland, Ian Thomson, together with the District Governor, Mohammad Ali came to view progress earlier this month and were shown around by the children accompanied by the head, Jill Northwood, chair of governors, John Robinson and deputy Sue Clarke.
The visiting VIPs even found time to join in a 'healthy exercise session' by joining in activities with pupils.
