Health and Safety Probe at St Leger

The Health and Safety Executive is today reported to have begun an investigation into St Leger Homes.

Dozens of people were evacuated and work stopped on refurbishment to 600 ex-council houses after asbestos fibres were discovered by workmen in June.

Chief executive of the arms-length copmany set up to run Doncaster's 21,000 former council houses, Martin Musgrave, was suspended two weeks ago.

Mayor Martin Winter said that he had had "serious" concerns about health and safety issues at St Leger, which was carrying out the borough's biggest ever housing programme, the 300m government-funded Decent Homes scheme.
