Five escape Mexborough house fire

Five people escaped uninjured from a house fire in Mexborough early today.

Edlington and Dearne fire crews were called to Lorna Road just after 2am and found all the occupants had got out in time.

The kitchen was severely damaged by a fire from a cooker which had been left switched on.

Two of the occpupants were asleep when the fire broke out but the other three alerted them to the danger.

A fire service spokesman said the cause was accidental.
