Fire crews alerted to ‘fog’ blaze
South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service.
FIRE services from Epworth were called to a suspected blaze from a reported mass of smoke close to an airfield at Belton.
But when the fire crew arrived at the scene off Sandtoft Road - the billowing smoke reported by an anxious member of the public turned out to be nothing but fog.
The false alarm was raised yesterday afternoon just before 1pm, and the fire crew was there by 1.13pm.
A Humberside fire service spokesman said that changes in the weather have created some unusual conditions, and the person who reported the fire had believed it was thick smoke they witnessed spreading across the roadway close to the airfield and a garden centre.
He said: “We follow up all calls and we carried out a thorough investigation at the scene - but there was no fire.”
