Explorers to tell their story

TWO intrepid local explorers will be re-living their Himalayan adventures at Wath Library later this month.

Trekking colleagues David Peckett and John Driskell will be giving a talk about their trip to Everest base camp in the 1960s.

Retired teacher David, of Wath, and John, of Sheffield, will illustrate their talk with pictures of their journey, which saw them and three other friends drive from Barnsley to Kathmandu via Afghanistan.

They will tell all about their trek from Kathmandu to Everest base camp, as well as charting the developments they saw in the region, when they returned last year.

Their reminiscences are the subject of a book - ‘Everest - the Old Way’, which was released just before Christmas.

They will give the talk on Thursday, February 23, at 6.30pm. Admission is free and refreshments will be available.

For further details or to book your place, please contact Wath Library on 01709 873542.
