A YOUNG boy who won hearts across the Isle as he battled cancer, has sadly lost his fight for life.

The death of seven-year old Alexander Strong, of Burnham Road, Epworth, was announced by his father Mark, 46, on social media site Facebook, and tributes immediately began to pour in.

Mr Strong said he would give more details when the family had “gathered themselves properly.”

His emotive post said simply: “We have lost our son Lex, the little man passed away about an hour ago. He, along with Olivia, are our reason for being, and we are extremely sorry to have to tell you this.”

He added: “Please say a final prayer for our brave, beautiful, courageous Lex. Love to all.”

Last month, Alex had begun a new treatment at University College Hospital in London in a bid to buy time as medics sought to find alternative treatments for his rare form of cancer, neuroblastoma.

Hundreds of people had rallied behind the family to fundraise, after being touched by Alex’s spirit and bravery throughout his illness.

In November he and his nine-year-old sister Olivia were treated to a VIP day at Hamley’s toy shop in London, courtesy of the Rotary Club of Epworth and the Isle of Axholme.

Alex died in the early hours of this morning.
