Drug arrests in the Dearne

TWO drug hauls, at Brampton and Swinton, were uncovered during a two-day Dearne police operation this week.

A man in his twenties was arrested then later released on police bail, after a bag of amphetamine worth £2000 was found at Brampton. And a 27-year old man pleaded guilty to producing cannabis at Swinton, and was remanded to court.

Officers issued 16 fixed penalty notices to drivers for offences including not wearing a seatbelt, using mobile phones whist driving, and defects to the vehicles. From a number of vehicles stopped, six had no insurance or the drivers had no driving licence and five vehicles were removed for having no tax.

The swoops were carried out by Wath Safer Neighbourhood Team consisting of police, Rotherham Council staff, and other partner agencies.

HM Customs issued one on the spot fine to a driver carrying red diesel. There were also a number of waste carrier licence checks.

One man who was wanted by police was arrested for a violent disorder offence.

Police community support officers were on patrol at local schools and advisory notices were issued to parents whose parking was causing obstruction outside any school.

Crime prevention leaflets were distributed advising residents on how to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of burglary on Christchurch Road, Knollbeck Avenue and Edward Street, by local pupils from Wath Comprehensive School.

Acting Police Sergeant Clare Learad said: ”Operation collaboration was a big success There was a large amount of time invested in the planning of the operation and the resourcing of it. Our actions show a commitment to the communities in the Wentworth North area and show that we will act upon their concerns and deliver results in a joined up approach with our partners. This weeks operation saw some excellent results.”
