Doncaster MP Ed Miliband to wed

LABOUR leader Ed Miliband and his partner are getting married, the Free Press can exclusively reveal today.

The Doncaster MP will wed barrister Justine Thornton, 40, on May 27 at a plush country house hotel close to the bride’s childhood home.

A delighted Justine said that the venue for the wedding - Langar Hall hotel near Nottingham - was just 20 minutes from where she grew up.

The couple said they had agreed around March last year that they were going to get married - and that their plans had not changed at all after Ed’s election as Labour leader in September.

Justine said: “Ed wasn’t even an MP when I met him and at the end of the day I am marrying him because of who he is and not because of what he’s doing now.

“We’re planning on a small ceremony, all at the hotel with everything at the same place and we’re looking forward to it very much.”

Ed, 41, beamed as he said: “This is going to be a fantastic day for us both and I feel incredibly priviliged to be marrying someone so beautiful and who is such a special person. It’s the right time for us to do this and I’m really looking forward to a lovely day.

“We’re going to have a party in Doncaster when we get back from honeymoon - which will be in an undisclosed location! “

Ed said they wanted the ceremony to be intimate and that they wouldn’t be sticking to all of the conventions. He was not planning to have a best man - although he didn’t rule out a ‘low-key’ stag night.

He said: “At the end of the day we’re in our 40s and we’ve got two kids - so it wasn’t a case of me suddenly popping the question. This is just something we think is right for us.”

The couple will be married by a registrar in front of around 50 guests including Ed’s MP brother David and his wife.

Ed and Justine met in 2004 and became a couple a year later. They have two children Daniel, 21 months, and four-month-old Samuel, and live at the family home in north London when Ed is not on duty in his North Doncaster constituency.
