Doncaster's Odeon Cinema still for sale
DONCASTER'S historic Odeon cinema is still on the market despite rumours the venue had been sold.
Odeon has said it was still in talks with interested parties about the sale of the building following speculation it had been snapped up by a property company.
Last year the building, which has been a cinema since 1934, was put up for sale after Odeon said it was not longer economically viable as a picture house.
An Odeon spokesman said: "Odeon can confirm that the Odeon Doncaster is still being marketed to potential buyers and discussions are ongoing.
"Odeon is considering its position in Doncaster and a further statement will be made in due course."
The building is one of only two art deco buildings in the town centre but is not a listed building.
Campaign group Friends of Doncaster Odeon, was set up to save the building after fears were raised it could be demolished.
Doncaster's International City Church, in Nether Hall Road, has previously stated it was interested in buying the venue which has hosted concerts from legendary music acts including the Beatles.
