DONCASTER Rovers first team players have given their backing to an anti-racism campaign.

Club captain Rob Jones joined team-mates Dave Syers and James Harper to speak to hundreds of youngsters from local schools about the issue at the Show Racism The Red Card event at the Keepmoat Stadium.

During the event young people took part in activities teaching them about racism and stereotypes. They were also given the chance to pose questions to the panel of current players.

Joining the Rovers stars were Show Racism The Red Card coach, and former Wolves keeper Matt Murray, Rovers manager Brian Flynn, and former Wolves and Rovers keeper Jan Budtz.

Chief executive of SRtRC Ged Grebby said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Doncaster Rovers and Doncaster Council. I’m sure the young people from Doncaster benefitted greatly from the event.”

Gavin Baldwin, chief executive of Doncaster Rovers, said: “Raising awareness of racism among young people is extremely important - young people do look up to footballers so we hope messages like this coming from the players themselves will make a real difference. There is no place for racism on or off the pitch.”
