Doncaster Health bosses to meet ‘personalised care’ users

HEALTH bosses are taking steps to make sure new personalised care being rolled out across Doncaster fits the needs of those who get it.

People who will use care and support packages under the Making it Real personalisation programme are being asked what they expect from the changed arrangements.

Personalisation is about putting individuals in the driving seat of building a system of care and support that is designed with their full involvement, and tailored to meet their own unique needs, according to the health officials running the scheme.

People receive their own budget and can decide how, who with and where they wish to spend that budget in order to meet their needs.

Doncaster Council is meeting patients on Friday, March 8, at Doncaster Lakeside Community Church, on Booth Avenue, Lakeside.

The aim of the session is to have discussions with service users, carers and other who are involved with patient care, in a bid to measure where the council progressing with the scheme.

Making it Real sets out what people who use social care services and carers expect to see and experience if support services are truly personalised.

It is a set of ‘progress markers’ - written by real people and families - that can help an organisation to check how they are going towards transforming adult social care.

Joan Beck, Doncaster Council director for adult and community services, said: “The aim of Making it Real is for people to have more choice and control so they can live full and independent lives. I hope people will attend the workshop and have their say.”

The workshop will start at 2pm and finish around 4pm, with refreshments provided for those who attend.
