The owners of a Doncaster boutique visited a research lab to see how their fashion show donation is helping cancer treatment.

Robinsons of Bawtry raised £14,713 for Yorkshire Cancer Research at its annual show last October and the money sponsors PhD student James Hackland.

“We are thrilled to have raised such a significant amount of money for such a worthwhile cause and were delighted to have had the opportunity to meet the team at the University of Sheffield,” said Russell Jones, proprietor Robinsons.

“It was enlightening to receive such an insight into the work they are doing. To know that our monies are allowing James to take place in a vital, three year research programme is very satisfying and we thank everyone who attended the fundraising evening.”

James’s work over the last year has focused on research into the cell type origin of Rhabdomyosarcoma and it is essential to know where it comes from in order to develop new treatments.

James said he was ‘immensely grateful’ for the financial support. “It has allowed me to carry out an exciting and productive first year of research that will be the foundation of my PhD.”
