A YOUNG clothes designer is set for the glamour of London Fashion Week after she was chosen by industry experts to have her creations modelled on the catwalk.

Chelsey Crossland, 22, of Rawmarsh, beat more than 100 entrants from across the country to be named as one of 15 finalists in the 2013 Fashion Awareness Direct (FAD) Competition.

Models will parade her designs down the catwalk at Fashion Scout in Covent Garden on February 19 as part of London Fashion Week.

The outfits will be judged by a panel of top industry experts, including iconic fashion editor and talent spotter Hilary Alexander,

The former Rawmarsh Community School pupil, now a student at Sheffield Hallam University, said: “I feel over the moon at being selected as a finalist.

“FAD enables you to become part of London Fashion Week, which is a dream to any aspiring designer and huge event in the fashion world.

“It is such an amazing opportunity and platform to showcase your work to industry professionals.”

The competition brief challenged entrants to imagine key developments in society over the next decade and to come up with positive, creative outfits to respond to those changes.

The winner and two runners-up will be offered funding and the opportunity to work for a top designer in the industry.

Chelsey’s collection, ‘A Home at the End of the World’, has an environmental theme.

She said: “The key change in ten years will be the shortage of raw materials the impact of climate change from waste products.

“Every year 11,000,000 tons of clothing and waste fabric and footwear are thrown away unnecessarily.

“My collection uses existing garments and remnant fabrics to create something new and wearable, give a garment a new lease of life.”

This is the 12th year that creative charity FAD has run the competition, which has been described by Vogue as an ‘undeniable springboard’.

Past finalists have gone on to win top awards and work for the likes of iconic fashion designers Vivienne Westwood.
