Declan's a runaway champ
CAMPSALL champ Declan Wainer found himself in the limelight, after winning the Junior section of the Great Yorkshire Run – and being interviewed for Channel 5!
Declan took part in the first ever junior competition, which was held at Sheffield's Don Valley Stadium.
He sprinted away with first place – then after beating hundreds of junior competitors, the excited 11-year-old found himself thrust in front of the cameras, as part of an hour-long Channel 5 special.
He was one of 15 excited youngsters taken to the competition by Campsmount sports co-ordinator, Dave Brook, for the 3km race.
Campsmount Sports Club has also recently formed an athletics section and will become one of five "satellite" feeder clubs to the new
Doncaster Athletics Club, based at the Keepmoat Stadium.
And Declan's extra athletics training had clearly paid off, as he marched up to the podium to claim his gold medal.
To further promote athletics, new coach Mike Cook is currently working full-time with youngsters at Norton and Askern Spa Junior Schools.
Mr Brook said: "A lot of people have put an awful lot of effort into bringing state-of-the art facilities to our area. It's great to see youngsters like Declan start to break through.
"Using these facilities and training hard with top quality coaching, is an unbeatable combination.
"Who knows what other talent is out there?"
