Cut speeds or someone will die say crash couple

A NOTORIOUS road dubbed a "fatal accident waiting to happen" by a crash survivor is to be investigated by road safety chiefs.

Matthew Bull, 25, and his then heavily pregnant girlfriend were involved in a car smash on Rookery Road, Swinton.

The couple, and rear seat passenger daughter, escaped serious injury but another recent accident has sparked calls for action to be taken.

Mr Bull claimed drivers regularly go at 40 to 50mph on the 30 limit road and demanded in last week's times for traffic bosses to step in.

His pleas have now been answered after Rotherham Council pledged to take up the case and probe driving speeds on the road.

A spokesperson said: "We are aware of the issues on the road and we will be doing a speed survey to check how fast vehicles are going.

"This would be within the next couple of months and then the data will be passed to the South Yorkshire Safety Camera Partnership (SYSCP) who will decide wether or not to take it further."

She added that the SYSCP may then choose to install their own mobile speed cameras to further monitor the situation.

Mr Bull had called for speed bumps to be installed on the road, but the council spokesperson confirmed this would not happen at this stage as other roads have priority for cameras.
