Courageous West Melton teen dies of natural causes

A BRAVE teenager who lived life to the full despite suffering from a degenerative disease died despite his family’s attempts to save him, an inquest heard.

Thomas Anthony Parkin, 16, of York Gardens, West Melton, battled with Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy all his life.

Despite suffering from the disease alongside his brother James he managed to attend a mainstream school and met his problems with ‘courage and determination’.

Thomas died in Barnsley Hospital on May 12 2012. He had suffered breathing difficulties at home and his Mother Victoria King and her partner Andrew Whitworth were unable to resuscitate him, the hearing was told

Deputy Assistant Coroner Marke Beresford recorded a verdict of death due to natural causes.
