College star hits the big time in live finals

MUSIC technology degree student Guy Richardson has made it through to the regional finals of a competition to find the best up and coming singer-songwriters.

Guy, 22, who attends Doncaster College, will be performing in the live stages of Open Mic UK 2009 at Sheffield City Hall in September.

The competition is searching for the country's best singers, singer-songwriters, rappers and vocalists of all genres who perform either covers or original materials.

More than 10,000 hopefuls entered the competition. Guy, of Thurnscoe, is now competing for a spot in the national final and the chance to grab a break through recording contract.

The winners will be thrust into the media spotlight through television, radio and the press and all winners will be invited on the Open Mic UK Tour, which boasts 100 gigs across the country.
