A TEEN singing sensation is celebrating after signing her first record contract.

Carla Tagg, who goes by the stage name Carla May has put pen to paper with record label Starfighter, meaning she will release her first official album later in the year.

The 14-year-old Hall Cross pupil only started singing two years ago, but has now said she hopes to emulate the success of Jessie J with a mix of pop and R and B songs.

She said: “I am really happy about signing the contract.

“The next step is to get four songs together for my extended play, which will be a mix of songs and include some I have written.

“I sing all sorts of songs from ballads to up tempo numbers, but the ballads are better for my voice.”

Her record will be produced by the team behind Paloma Faith and Plan B and she is set to perform in front of Blue’s Duncan James next month at a concert in Scarborough.

Carla, who lives with mum Laura in Howden Close, Besssacar, was put in touch with the record label by her singing teacher Georgina Hill-Brown, and has already gathered a strong fan base through youtube performances, and through releasing a charity single for the Sheffield Children’s Hospice.

The song, entitled Annie’s Song, is often played at Sheffield United games and is even available to download on iTunes.

Proud nanna Jan Aldred, said: “We noticed she had a real talent when she was about ten and she has such a unique voice.

“The record label she has signed with is quite new, but have lots of experience,”

She has already notched up a number of competition wins around Yorkshire, being crowned Hall Cross’s Got Talent winner and a finalist in Wakefield’s Got Talent and the national Junior Talent Search.
