BREAKING NEWS: Woman raped in town centre

A REVELLER has been raped in Doncaster town centre after she became separated from friends while on a night out.

Detectives have launched a manhunt to trace the culprit who attacked his 20-year-old victim yards from the town centre’s main party street.

The woman was in Bowers Fold, off Silver Street, when she lost her friends in the early hours of Sunday when the town centre was still busy following Saturday’s St Leger.

When she realised they had become separated the victim’s 18-year-old friend approached a man in a wheelchair and a man wearing a Sainsburys uniform in Market Place to help find her.

The 20-year-old was found soon afterwards in Bowers Fold. Two women had stopped to help the 20-year-old and speak to the a police operator to give them details about the incident.

Police have appealed to the two women who came to the victim’s assistance, and the two men who helped her friend to come forward as they believe they may hold vital clues.

The sex attack happened between 1.30am and 2am.

The suspect was white, of a stocky build, with a round face and full lips. He had dark brown or black hair that was partly shaved with the fringe gelled forward. He was wearing a dark polo shirt with a different coloured edging around the collar and a motif on the left side of the chest, and dark jeans. It is thought that he may have spoken with an Irish accent.

Anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 135 of September 16, 2012, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
