Brave Conisbrough mum Faye is a bride at last
Conisbrough mum Faye Ward and husband Martin at their wedding and below Faye having her head shaved for charity.
A MUM is celebrating after walking down the aisle for the marriage she feared she would never make.
Faye Ward tied the knot to her fiance Martin, on her 33rd birthday, in front of overjoyed family and friends.
It was a triple celebration because Faye, who diagnosed with cancer earlier this year is now in remission.
“At one point I wondered if I would be here for my birthday, but now we have our lives in front of us,” said Faye of Willow Street, Conisbrough.
Faye, who has a teenage son, underwent a hysterectomy after a biopsy revealed a sizeable growth on her ovaries. She was informed that the growth was non-malignant.
But when she was recalled to Sheffield’s Royal Hallamshire Hospital in March she was told that she did have cancer.
She immediately proposed to her partner of four years then set about planning a fundraiser.
Knowing she would lose her long blonde hair as a side-effect of chemotherapy, she decided to collect sponsorship to have her head shaved, so her hair might then be used to create wigs for children with cancer. Faye has since raised hundreds of pounds for charity.
Fay went through months of chemotherapy at Doncaster Royal infirmary and in August was told it had worked well. The happy couple were married at Doncaster Register Office. From there a blessing was held at the Groves Club, Conisbrough. Faye said: “My family and friends have been just brilliant.
“The wedding day was the icing on the cake - I hope my story gives hope to others in this situation.”
