Body of Doncaster soldier killed in Afghanistan returns home

Waiting for Video...

Hundreds of war veterans joined the heartbroken family of Sgt Lee Davidson to mourn the death of the heroic soldier as his body was repatriated this afternoon.

Sgt Davidson’s body was brought back by the Military to RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire, at around 1.30pm with comrades waiting to carry his coffin off the plane and into a hearse.

Troop flags and banners lined the streets of the town as the cortege of the 32-year-old made its way through the streets.

Pregnant wife Samantha, who has two children, Jayden and Jamie, with the Thorne soldier, wept as she clutched on to a single red rose and placed it on top of the hearse.

Sgt Davidson of The Light Dragoons was on patrol with the Afghan Police Force in Helmand Province on Sunday when the vehicle he was in was hit by an improvised explosive device.

It was his second tour of Afghanistan.
