DESERT runner turned author Ray Matthews has a new challenge on June 9 - this time with a partner.

The 70-year old will attempt a 24 hour, 100km London to Brighton run with a blind ex-army officer, Kerry Levin from Aldershot.

Kerry volunteered to represent Blind Veterans UK - the former St Dunstans charity for blind ex-servicemen and women that will benefit from the effort. The pair’s valiant attempt will be followed live by BBC radio, and Energie, the Parkgate gym where Ray is based, will sponsor the event.

“It’s an ambitious thing but we’ll give it our best and see how we go,” said Ray. “I’ve met Kerry now...he’s determined, I’m determined and hopefully we’ll make a lot of money for a very worthwhile cause.”

Blind Veterans UK has seen an influx of admissions in recent times, of servicemen and women blinded while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. To support Ray and Kerry, log on to http://www.justgiving.com/ultraray
