Bikers raise cash for lifeboat charity
BIKERS have rallied round in support of a popular lifeboat charity.
The Yorkshire branch of the GoldWing Owners Club of Great Britain (pictured above), which includes several members from Doncaster, presented a cheque for 8,820 to be shared between RNLI Lifeboat stations in Filey and Scarborough.
The RNLI was involved in the emergency response to the floods of 2007 - and was chosen by the Yorkshire motorbike club as its nominated charity for last year.
John Bates, GoldWings' charity organiser for 2008, said the year's fundraising events had collected a record-breaking amount.
He said: "I am delighted that our members wanted to support the RNLI Filey Lifeboats. We like to keep our support for charities within Yorkshire and last year Filey came top of our list.
"The RNLI had come inland to assist in the floods of 2007, so we thought we would show them our appreciation by returning our support for their services.
"You can always depend on our club members to give their full support and they did - big style."
