Big bike ride for Doncaster college team
NEWS: News.
A GROUP of adventurers from the Communication Specialist College Doncaster are set to embark on a fundraising challenge of a lifetime.
Six members of staff are using a range of adapted and unusual bikes to cycle from London to Paris to raise funds for Doncaster Deaf Trust.
It is their third charity challenge, having previously conquered the Three Peaks and paddled the Caledonian Canal in canoes.
The team are doing the 280-mile ride during the Leger Way college’s Easter break.
Team member Alex Turner, a Pathway Learning Mentor, said: “We wanted to do something even more testing for us all. Cycling from London to Paris seemed like a good idea – especially with the Tour De France coming to Yorkshire next year.
“One of our team members, Darren Emson, wears a cochlear implant which affects his balance which means we will be riding on tandem cycles to ensure Darren can complete the challenge with us. We wanted to raise awareness about these specially adapted bikes and show what they can do.
“We need to raise at least £3,000 in order to provide a number of specially adapted bikes that both pupils at the Doncaster School for the Deaf and students at the College will be able to use.”
