AURORA CENTRE GETS NEW LOOK
A PIONEERING treatment centre for cancer patients has undergone a revamp - with the aim of providing a more relaxing environment.
The Aurora Centre at Doncaster Royal Infirmary went DIY mad at the weekend - welcoming painters, decorators and handy men to make the rooms feel less clinical and help patients try and forget they are in hospital.
The JCI Doncaster Changing Rooms project took place over three days with support from the Painting and Decorating Association's president Ian Stokes, and sponsorship from SigmaKalon Paint Manufacturers and United Carpets of Mexborough. The aim of the project, which was carried out by JCI members and local artist Katherine Milns, was to decorate and revamp the beauty room, providing a calming, less clinical environment for patients.
Organiser Charlotte Mottershead from JCI said: "Staff at he centre are thrilled with the results.
"It has made such a difference - the room looks much bigger and is much more welcoming and relaxing."
The unique centre provides an innovative service for cancer patients in the form of self-esteem boosting beauty treatements for men and women while undergoing and recovering from chemo and radiotherapy.
