SUPERkid Grace Sellers is getting ready to strut her stuff at cancer charity’s annual fashion show.
It’s an amazing transformation for the eight-year-old, of Woodfield Plantation, Balby, who just three years ago had lost all her hair as she battled with kidney cancer.
Tickhill Estfeld Primary School pupil Grace is now living life to the full after undergoing 12 months of gruelling chemotherapy at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
Her mum Sharon admitted she might shed a few tears when she watches Grace model a prom dress at Aurora’s tenth anniversary fashion extravaganza at The Dome tonight.
She said: “It’s just amazing really. She’s just slotted back into normal life and her illness has never been an issue for her.
“She’s so excited about taking part in the show. I think it’ll be an emotional night for me though.
“We’ve got lots of family and friends going and I think they’ll all be getting their handkerchiefs out.”
Grace was diagnosed with a Wilms’ tumour in 2008. She was given a clear scan after 12 months and is currently in good health, though still going for check-ups every six months.
Courageous Grace was awarded a Free Press Superkid award in 2009 after she raised thousands of pounds for the Children’s Hospital, while she was still undergoing treatment.
Sharon, 40, added: “I have only recently come across the work of Aurora, since a friend of mine was diagnosed with breast cancer.
“The work they do is fantastic and I think it would have been amazing to know about it when Grace was in hospital. As she was treated in Sheffield, we didn’t know about it then.
“When I’ve been to Aurora, the atmosphere has always been so upbeat. It’s obviously unfortunate that anyone gets cancer but there’s something about going through it that makes you really appreciate normal life and how good it is.”
Grace now attends theatre classes, enjoys dancing and goes to Brownies.
Sharon joked: “A lot of my time now revolves around Grace’s social life - it’s much better than mine!”
Show tickets cost £10 and are available from the Aurora Centres based at Doncaster Royal Infirmary or Mexborough Montagu hospitals. Alternatively call The Dome box office on 01302 370777.
Tickets will also be available on the door. Doors open at 7pm.
